Business Development and Proposal Coordinator

Position Summary
The Business Development and Proposal Coordinator is the primary person responsible for business development systems management, including proposal development, institutional donor prospecting and stewarding, information systems management, grant cycle tracking, and grant writing. This position is also primarily responsible for ensuring clear, transparent, consistent and frequent communication between the global and in-country business development leads.

The Business Development and Proposal Coordinator will work closely with other members of the global Business Development (BD) team to identify and secure new donors to support GRS’s five-year strategy. Specifically, s/he will work with the Director of Development and field teams to identify new funding opportunities with USG and US foundation donors; identify and recruit competitive consortia partners; develop proposals; and facilitate internal process improvement for competitive funding opportunities.

The position is 40 hours per week working within an environment that accommodates flexibility and working remotely. Job will include some international travel, up to 10%.

Key Relationships
The Business Development and Proposal Coordinator will report to the Senior Business Development Manager and will work closely with the US and UK BD teams, as well as in-country points of contact (including managing directors and program managers). S/he will also work closely with the global Communications, Research, Monitoring & Evaluation, and Finance teams. This role requires strong collaboration with colleagues across multiple internal departments, geographies, and time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Proposal writing, coordination & submission (50%): Develop timelines and manage the proposal development process across global teams to respond quickly and efficiently to opportunities when they are identified. Lead and support the development of a range of proposals for individuals and foundations and institutional donors in the US and other key GRS geographies. Write and coordinate progress reports, program updates, and other supporting documents.
  • Internal BD Systems Strengthening (30%): Maintain organization-wide document and content management system for business development materials and intellectual property. Coordinate and oversee donor reporting schedules, working with the GRS finance and grant management teams. Coordinate internal team calls, meetings and follow up. As needed, attend key events, conferences, and meetings as a representative of GRS with the primary intention of building partnerships and relationships with key donors.
  • Donor research and meeting preparation (20%): Background research on giving patterns, philanthropic interests, and other relevant connections between individual donors and influencers for GRS. Creation and management of pitch materials on a range of topics including general GRS background, scientific impact evaluation, health systems strengthening, and thematic program areas (e.g. HIV, gender, and soccer).

Specifications & Competencies

  • Work Experience: 2-5 years experience working in international development. 2-5 years experience working in business development or program management, with exposure to UN organizations and/or corporate foundations. Experience conducting desk research on fundraising opportunities, including using publicly available data to develop prospecting strategies. Experience writing grant proposals, reports, timelines and budgets. A strong understanding of Grassroot Soccer’s work and international development, with focus on global health, HIV, youth development. Experience working at a mid to large-size international NGO and working internationally and in different cultural contexts.
  • Communication Style: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Commercial talent and acumen to generate new leads, close deals, maintain strong relationships and conduct thorough follow-up. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage tight timelines across teams.
  • Work Style: A desire to take initiative and deliver on ideas. Willingness to work independently and flexibly across different time zones and teams. Interest in/knowledge of social issues affecting young people and communities in developing countries.
