Lose the Shoes

Barefoot 3v3 Tournaments to Kick AIDS in Africa

ltsflyerkick.jpg

Mobilize your own college, high school, community, or soccer club in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa! In the fall of 2006, Dartmouth College held the first ever Lose the Shoes 3v3 barefoot tournament. Since then, over 100 Lose the Shoes events been held to support Grassroot Soccer and have raised almost $150,000.

The tournaments are rewarding for tournament coordinators, volunteers, and participants. “From conception to completion it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career,” said Dan Anadio, LTS coordinator at SUNY Cortland. "The Lose the Shoes Guide is going to be passed down through the ranks of our soccer teams leaders for years to come."

Lose the Shoes is becoming more than just a fundraising campaign—it is mobilizing the next generation of students, activists, and soccer players to unite and actively seek a solution to the AIDS pandemic. LTS has come a long way since the first Dartmouth tournament in 2006, but we still have much to achieve!

"Please know that what you are doing can and will make a direct impact on many children’s lives in Africa…This is our generation that is suffering and it is our generation that can turn it around.” ~ Brittany Lees, Mariner Soccer Club/Old Rochester Regional HS LTS Coordinator

Check out the Lose the Shoes Coordinators' Forum on Facebook! "Grassroot Soccer has truly been a life-changing organization for me and my friends. Ever sine I stumbled upon Lusaka Sunrise browsing through YouTube, I was hooked on the cause.  Seeing this movie inspired me to search for ways to help out and eventually host my very own Lose the Shoes Tournament."

~ Tyler Culley, St. Rose HS Coordinator
